ICMED delivered a virtual briefing to the Belgian Defence College and the Dutch Armed Forces on the strategic challenges of military medical planning during the winter period in Ukraine.
BRUSSELS, Belgium β Following a well-received lecture in Brussels last autumn, the founders of ICMED were invited back to deliver an updated medical briefing to the Belgian Defence College at the Royal Military Academy (RMA). While previous engagements were held in person, this latest session was conducted virtually to accommodate the founders' ongoing, field operations and medical projects currently underway in eastern Ukraine. The brief focused extensively on the complex challenges and strategic adaptations required for medical planning over the intense winter period in Ukraine. Drawing from recent frontline data, the ICMED team provided crucial insights into managing trauma logistics, resource preservation, and casualty evacuation under severe winter weather conditions and active conflict scenarios. The online forum attracted a diverse, international cohort of military medical personnel and strategic planners. Attendees included officers from the Candidate Senior Officer Course, participants of the Basic Staff Course-Medical Operations Module, and Medical Services Cadets from the RMA, who were also joined for the session by representatives from the Dutch Armed Forces.
